The protesters had gathered at the assembly complex to express concerns over demolition exercises affecting Makoko, Owode Onirin, Oworonshoki, Otumara, and Baba-Ijora. They accused the state government of carrying out the demolitions without sufficient consultation, compensation, or resettlement arrangements for affected residents. Witnesses said the protest, which began peacefully, was later dispersed after police operatives deployed tear gas to prevent the gathering from escalating and to restore order within the area.
