Lagos Court Jails 115 Street Beggars, Arraigns 26 ‘Omotaku’ Members

A Lagos court has sentenced 115 street beggars following actions by the Lagos State Government to enforce laws against public nuisance and street begging. In addition, 26 members of the notorious ‘Omotaku’ group were arraigned for their involvement in organized street activities deemed disruptive to public order.

According to court officials, the measures are part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety, promote lawful conduct, and rehabilitate vulnerable individuals. The arraignment and sentencing aim to ensure compliance with city regulations and reduce criminality in Lagos communities.

Authorities emphasized that interventions targeting street begging and organized groups like ‘Omotaku’ are accompanied by rehabilitation and social support programs to address the root causes of the activities. The state government continues to urge residents to support law enforcement by reporting illegal street operations.
