Kwara Woman Appeals to Court to Stop Husband From Divorcing Her

A woman, Mariam Alagbede from Idiape village in Ogidi Area, Ilorin, Kwara State, has approached the Area Court, Centre-Igboro, seeking help to persuade her husband, Muhammed Bashir, to reconsider divorcing her.

Mariam told the court she remained committed to the marriage, pleading, “I don’t want divorce. Please sir, help me beg him to forgive me for any wrong I might have done.”
Her husband had earlier stated that although they married three years ago, he was now weary of the union, citing lack of love and his wife’s non-submissiveness as reasons for wanting a divorce.

Presiding Judge Toyin Aluko advised Mariam to work with both families to find possible solutions to resolve their differences. The court subsequently adjourned the case to allow for further deliberations.
