Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lokoja, have recorded notable operational successes following coordinated patrols and ambush operations carried out on 3 January 2026 across parts of Kabba/Bunu and Yagba West Local Government Areas of Kogi State.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of armed bandits from the Adankolo area toward Agbadu Bunu, troops swiftly deployed and positioned an ambush at a suspected crossing point. The bandits later encountered the ambush and were engaged, forcing them to retreat. During exploitation of the area, troops observed evidence suggesting casualties among the fleeing criminals.

In the encounter, two bandits were neutralized, and troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, 99 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one locally fabricated firearm, and eleven cartridges.

In a related operation, intelligence reports indicated bandit activity around Saminaka village in Yagba West LGA. Troops, working alongside local vigilantes, conducted a fighting patrol into the village and surrounding forest areas. Upon arrival, the village was found deserted, prompting an extensive sweep of nearby routes and forest paths.

Troops later engaged an unconfirmed number of bandits, leading to their withdrawal into the forest. Further exploitation of the withdrawal route resulted in the discovery of one neutralized bandit, along with the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and seventeen rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

During the same operation, troops arrested a suspected logistics supplier believed to be supporting bandit activities. The suspect, identified as Sunday Adedotun from Odo Eri village, was apprehended on farmland within Saminaka village. Items recovered from the location included energy drinks, bottled water, soft drinks, and farm produce, believed to be intended for criminal elements. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation.

These operations highlight the sustained pressure being applied by troops against criminal elements and their support networks within the area.

Commending the troops for their professionalism and swift response, the Commander, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to continuous aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying criminals freedom of action and ensuring the safety of residents.
