Tragedy in Lagos: Service of Songs Announced for Three Brothers Killed in Balogun Fire
A family has announced the service of songs for three brothers who lost their lives during a tragic fire outbreak at the Great Nigeria Insurance House in Balogun, Lagos.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 24, when a fire broke out in the commercial building, forcing traders and occupants to evacuate in haste. During the chaos, parts of the structure reportedly collapsed, trapping several people who were attempting to move their goods to safety.
The victims have been identified as Stephen Onyeka Omatu, Casmir Nnabuike Omatu, and Collins Kenechukwu Omatu. Sadly, the three brothers were unable to escape the building and were confirmed dead after the incident.
According to reports, the brothers were orphans. They are survived by two sisters and two brothers, one of whom is a Catholic priest.
The family has announced that the service of songs will take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2026.
The tragedy has renewed concerns over fire safety, emergency response, and building integrity in densely populated commercial areas of Lagos.
