Meet the Only Two Nigerian Governors Known to Have Graduated With First Class Honours
Academic excellence among Nigerian political leaders is often discussed, but only two sitting governors are publicly known to have graduated from university with First Class honours.
They are Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State—both distinguished economists with strong academic backgrounds.
Governor Alex Otti earned a First Class degree in Economics before building a successful career in banking and public service. He later transitioned into politics, where he currently serves as the governor of Abia State.
Similarly, Governor Charles Soludo graduated with First Class honours in Economics and went on to obtain a PhD in the same field. He is widely respected for his academic contributions and previously served as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria before becoming Anambra State governor.
Their achievements continue to spark conversations about education, leadership, and the role of academic excellence in governance in Nigeria.
