Nigeria, UAE Sign Landmark Economic Partnership Agreement in Abu Dhabi
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has participated in the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, marking a major milestone in bilateral economic relations between both countries.
The agreement was signed during the ongoing Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, following an invitation by the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. President Tinubu witnessed the signing alongside the UAE leader in Abu Dhabi.
According to the Nigerian president, the agreement is the outcome of extensive negotiations led by Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and her UAE counterpart, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi. He commended both ministers and their teams for what he described as disciplined, focused, and result-oriented engagement that brought the talks to a successful conclusion.
President Tinubu explained that the partnership will provide duty-free access for thousands of Nigerian products into the UAE market, creating new opportunities for exporters, manufacturers, and service providers. The agreement is also expected to boost investor confidence and attract increased UAE investments into Nigeria’s productive sectors.
He noted that the deal aligns with Nigeria’s industrialisation and economic diversification goals, while positioning the country as a strategic gateway for trade and investment into Africa.
The president described the agreement as a product of economic reform, purposeful diplomacy, and carefully structured partnerships, expressing optimism that the renewed Nigeria–UAE relationship will deliver long-term benefits for both nations.
