A middle-aged man identified as Mr. Ayoola Ayanwale has been found dead in what authorities suspect to be a suicide, hours after he allegedly killed his wife in Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, January 8, at River Valley Estate, Ogun State, where Ayanwale is accused of stabbing his wife, Ayobami Ayanwale, during a domestic dispute in their apartment.
Residents of the estate said they heard distressing sounds coming from the couple’s residence and rushed to intervene, only to find Ayobami lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by neighbours but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. According to witnesses, the injuries were close to her lungs, affecting her breathing.
Family members disclosed that the attack allegedly occurred in the presence of the couple’s three children, adding that the deceased sustained multiple stab wounds to her chest, back and breast area.
Sources within the community further claimed that the suspect later returned to the apartment and attempted to clean blood stains before leaving the area.
Less than 12 hours after the incident, Ayanwale was reportedly found in distress at an open field in the Sotubo area of Ogun State on Friday, January 9, where he was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor. Items recovered at the scene included a bottle containing a suspected liquid substance, two mobile phones, a voter’s card and an ATM card.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the incident is under investigation and that an official statement will be issued by the command.
