Gumi Refutes Claims of U.S. Airstrike Assassination Attempt
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has dismissed circulating reports suggesting that he was targeted in a recent United States airstrike, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a clarification shared publicly, Sheikh Gumi explained that a viral video being referenced online is not recent and has been taken out of context. According to him, the footage dates back to 2012 and relates to a threat allegedly issued by the Boko Haram insurgent group at the time, not to any U.S. military operation.
Gumi stressed that there has been no assassination attempt against him involving foreign forces and urged the public to disregard the misinformation being spread on social media. He warned that recycling old content without proper context could incite unnecessary fear and tension.
The cleric also called on media platforms and social media users to verify information before sharing, noting that false security-related claims can have serious implications.
