BREAKING: Court Jails First Bank Customer Over Failure to Return N1.5bn Erroneous Credit

A Nigerian court has convicted a First Bank customer, Ojo Eghosa Kingsley, for failing to refund a large sum of money mistakenly credited to his bank account.

According to court records, the defendant received an erroneous transfer amounting to ₦1.5 billion but did not return the funds despite repeated demands. The prosecution told the court that only part of the money was recovered, while a significant balance remained unrefunded.

The court subsequently sentenced Kingsley to one year imprisonment, with an option of a ₦5 million fine. During proceedings, he reportedly informed the court that he preferred serving the jail term rather than refunding the outstanding balance.

The case has renewed public discussion on financial responsibility and the legal consequences of retaining funds transferred in error.
