FCT Minister Wike Faces Allegations Over Illegal Land Allocation in Maitama Extension

Abuja residents and urban development watchdogs have raised concerns over a recent land allocation in Maitama Extension, accusing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, of approving allocations that violate protected green area regulations.

According to reports, the allocated plots were originally designated as part of the city’s environmentally protected zones, intended to maintain ecological balance and provide open green space for public use. Critics argue that the conversion of these plots into luxury duplex sites undermines urban planning laws and could set a dangerous precedent for unchecked property development.

Civil society groups and local activists have called for a full investigation into the matter, stressing that transparency and strict adherence to city planning rules are crucial for sustainable urban development in Abuja.

The FCT Minister’s office has yet to respond to the allegations. Meanwhile, residents continue to voice concerns online and through community organizations, urging government authorities to clarify the legality of the Maitama Extension land allocations.
