DSS Arrests Two Suspected Sea Pirates in Bayelsa Over Planned Attack on Oil Vessel
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested two individuals suspected to be members of a sea piracy syndicate in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
According to security sources, the suspects were apprehended while allegedly finalising plans to hijack a crude oil–laden vessel operating within the Gulf of Guinea. The arrest followed intelligence-led surveillance aimed at disrupting criminal activities along Nigeria’s coastal waters.
The DSS reportedly recovered items believed to be linked to maritime crime during the operation. Authorities say the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as investigations continue to identify other members of the syndicate and prevent further threats to maritime security.
The Gulf of Guinea has remained a key focus of security agencies due to recurring incidents of piracy and illegal activities targeting commercial vessels. The DSS reiterated its commitment to collaborating with other security forces to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters and critical economic assets.
