Authorities in Jersey, a Crown Dependency of the United Kingdom, have announced plans to return $9.5 million traced to late Nigerian military ruler Sani Abacha to Nigeria.

The funds, which are linked to past corruption cases, are expected to be repatriated for use in infrastructure projects across the country. Officials said the return forms part of ongoing international cooperation aimed at recovering and repurposing illicitly acquired assets.

The Nigerian government has repeatedly stated that recovered assets would be deployed toward development-focused projects, including critical public infrastructure, to benefit citizens.

Further details on the timeline and specific projects to be funded are expected to be provided by the relevant authorities.
