Australian Authorities Revoke Nigerian Nurse’s Licence Over Workplace Misconduct

 An Australian health regulatory body has withdrawn the practising licence of a Nigerian-trained nurse following findings of repeated professional misconduct while on duty at an aged-care facility.

According to official reports, investigations revealed that the nurse was repeatedly found sleeping during work hours while assigned to monitor elderly patients. Regulators noted that such conduct posed a serious risk to patient safety, particularly given the vulnerability of residents under her care.

The disciplinary panel stated that despite previous warnings and interventions, the behaviour continued, raising concerns about judgment, professionalism, and adherence to workplace responsibilities. As a result, authorities concluded that the nurse was no longer fit to practise under Australia’s healthcare standards.

The licence revocation means the individual is barred from working as a nurse in Australia unless reinstatement conditions are met in the future. Health officials emphasized that the decision was made strictly in the interest of patient safety and maintaining public trust in the healthcare system.
