AI Will Not Replace Journalists Who Adapt, Says NUJ Chairman

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has stated that artificial intelligence (AI) will not replace journalists who are willing to learn and adapt to new technologies, stressing that the future of journalism depends on continuous skill development.

According to him, AI should be seen as a tool to enhance journalistic work, rather than a threat to the profession. He explained that journalists who embrace digital skills, innovation, and ethical reporting will continue to thrive in the evolving media landscape.

The NUJ chairman encouraged media professionals to take advantage of training opportunities in digital journalism, data reporting, and emerging technologies to remain relevant in a rapidly changing industry.

He added that while AI can assist with tasks such as research and content production, human judgment, creativity, and responsibility remain central to credible journalism.

The union, he said, remains committed to supporting journalists through capacity-building initiatives and professional development programs.
