The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against drug trafficking with the interception of 30 kilograms of heroin concealed in coffee packages at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

According to the agency, the illicit drugs were discovered during routine screening of luggage belonging to a foreign national who arrived in Nigeria from South America. NDLEA operatives reportedly uncovered the heroin after a thorough inspection revealed suspiciously packaged coffee packs containing the prohibited substance.

The suspect, identified as a Brazilian national, was immediately arrested for further investigation. NDLEA officials stated that preliminary findings suggest the drugs were intended for distribution within Nigeria or onward trafficking to other destinations.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening surveillance at airports and border points, warning drug traffickers that Nigeria will not serve as a transit or destination hub for illicit drugs.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to dismantle the network linked to the trafficking attempt.
